How to Pot Annuals

You may have noticed some pretty potted plants in our front yard tour from the other day.

Earlier this summer we bought some vinca to brighten up our front porch. They were small and not flowering much at the time, so I waited a few weeks to share with you. Boy have they grown like weeds.

This is what they looked like right after we planted them.

We bought these planters from Lowe’s because the color was pretty and they were plastic. Since we don’t plan to keep these pots in place year round, we needed to get something that wasn’t back breaking to move. Ceramic is just plain heavy, so these plastic guys fit the bill.

The downside to these planters is that they didn’t have a drainage hole, but that was an easy fix.

Step one: Get out your drill

Step two: Drill a hole. We drilled 2 for good measure.

We filled the pot with some potting mix and added a little Osmocote fertilizer per the instructions of the garden center.

So far so good!

I love the color of those pots, and I never would have guessed that they were plastic!

Saw your pic on CSI link-up. I totally have that same green planter and LOVE it… I didn’t think the lack of drainage would be a huge problem…but my flowers died :( haha. I guess all the water caused them to rot? Anyway- your space looks great!
